“Bang!” – An Open Letter / THE HAFLER TRIO

On this album, the Hafler Trio simply presents sound samples.
The LP contains 15 songs (24 on the CD released later), each about 2-3 minutes long.
All of the tracks are soundscapes, consisting entirely of sounds captured during fieldwork.
There are interview-like segments, outdoor recordings, and even drone music-like sounds and mechanical rattling, creating an enigmatic quality.
Masami Akita’s book Noise War also mentions this work by the Hafler Trio, describing it as “research into the unexplored realms of sound."
Since this album, the trio have continued to engage in fascinating activities, offering us different approaches to sound with each release.
Although the trio consists of one member playing the fictional Dr. Edward Moolenbeek, the other member has since left the band and the band appears to now be working solo.
